Resident Evil 4 remake has made plenty of changes to the original, and Leon gets help from certain characters this time around. And since he spends a large portion of time with Ashley, you might be wondering if RE4 remake is co-op now. After all, it wouldn’t be the first Resident Evil game to feature cooperative play.
Does Resident Evil 4 Remake Have Co-Op?
Presently, Resident Evil 4 remake doesn’t have a co-op feature, and it likely won’t be receiving one anytime soon. Likewise, Mercenaries mode doesn’t feature multiplayer.
Leon doesn’t have an NPC companion with him at all times, and that would either leave one co-op partner without the chance to play during those sections or force a character into the game during those parts.
The sections with Ashley, again, would put one co-op player on the sideline more than in the action because you don’t have a chance to fight as Ashley.
RE4 remake could add cooperative multiplayer by taking a look at how co-op is implemented in Resident Evil Revelations 2, which gives you reasons to play as Moira — who refuses to use guns. There, Moira acts as Claire’s co-op foil, because she has melee abilities and finishing moves to help your partner against the infected.
For now, though, the current version of RE4‘s Ashley doesn’t have any weapons for combat, so co-op in Resident Evil 4 remake would be imbalanced and shifted toward the player using Leon.
Without reworking the gameplay in Resident Evil 4 remake, there isn’t much potential for an optimal co-op experience. For now, the game will remain single-player only, but you’ll be able to play with friends as Resident Evil characters once Mercenaries releases.
Though RE4 remake co-op isn’t a possibility right now, there’s plenty for you to enjoy in the game without the feature. We have a Resident Evil 4 remake guides hub to help you with information like which Pistol to choose or how to beat the village encounter.
