If there is one game that I had hoped would be localized outside of Japan, it is Final Fantasy Type-0. Now, it seems my wishes are coming true, as Square Enix has just announced that they will be releasing Type-0 outside of Japan at E3.
Finally leaving Japan
Originally released in Japan on the PSP 2011, Final Fantasy Type-0 will now be known as Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, and and is coming on the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. Final Fantasy Agito, a Type-0 spinoff, will also be released outside Japan. It will come to both iOS and Android.
Final Fantasy Agito released in Japan last month, and takes place in the same world as Final Fantasy Type-0. Both of these games are part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis subseries, a series that also includes Final Fantasy XIII and its sequels. Square Enix product manager Sakura Minamida had this to say on the PlayStation Blog:
“I’d like to start this out by thanking everyone who let us know how badly you wanted this game to come to North America. Ever since the original PlayStation Portable release in Japan, you guys have never given up on it, raising your voices in an effort to see this title come to North America and Europe. Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s coming and it’s going to be in HD. Stay tuned for more details in the future.”
Final Fantasy Agito is free-to-play, complete with in-app purchases. There is no release date for Final Fantasy Type-0 HD or Final Fantasy Agito at the moment.
I am really excited about this announcement.
I have been waiting for this game to be localized for a long time (though I thought it would be released on the PS Vita). Final Fantasy Type-0 saw incredible success in Japan, and I never knew why Square Enix did not release it elsewhere. Nonetheless, Type-0 HD has me very excited, and will definitely see this as some of the biggest E3 2014 news for me. Hopefully we will learn more about Final Fantasy Type-0 HD soon.
