Pokemon X Y – Third Gym Leader Korrina Guide

Someone must have been watching Brink when they were designing this game.
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

After passing through Reflection Cave, you will end up in Shalour City. The gym leader here goes by the name of Korrina and she is the daughter of the Mega Evolution Guru. She will be the person you fight for your third badge in Pokémon X & Y.

Korrina is into roller skating. Really into it. Her entire gym is a roller skate park the likes of which would make any kid who grew up in the 80s and 90s foam at the mouth with glee during their childhood.

Suck it, skateboarders.

Know Your Enemy

Bruce Lee, the famous human fighting type, told us to be like water. Forget that noise when you’re fighting Korrina. Her fighting types won’t go down fast enough if you just shoot water gun at them, you need something stronger.

According to Bulbapedia, mono fighting types are weak to flying, fairy, and psychic. If you picked yourself up a fairy or psychic type on the way over here, you should be set. If you have a Vivillon, s/he should hopefully know draining kiss and psybeam by now, which will carry you through almost every enemy you run across in this gym.

Mono fighting types are resistant to bug, dark, and rock. If you end up using Vivillon, make sure you save the PP on any of your bug based moves. Furthermore, if you managed to get a hold of a dark or rock type, don’t use any of its Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) moves.

Be careful of which of your team members are out on the field as they will likely suffer heavy damage if they are one of the following types that fighting Pokémon are strong against: normal, rock, steel, ice, and dark.

Their moves only deal half damage to the following types: poison, flying, bug, psychic, and fairy.

You have a lot of options for fighting against fighting types. So, for now, ignore  Bruce Lee’s advice and be like fairy, flying, or psychic, my friend.

Let’s Get Ready to Rumble

As previously mentioned, Korrina’s gym is like one giant roller skate park. There are ramps for you to jump off and rails for you to grind on. These rails will lead you to various points in the gym.

To get to Korrina, you will have to defeat her four followers: Roller Skater Shun, Roller Skater Rolanda, Roller Skater Dash, and Roller Skater Kate. They are better at roller skating than you so be thankful this is a Pokémon battle.

I don’t mean to brag about my neckbeard skills, but my Vivillon shredded through most of these enemies. This means that I didn’t get a chance to see all the different moves they have. If you are following a sound strategy, you shouldn’t have to worry about this, though. Just spam psybeam and use potions when need be.
