It’d Be “Impossible” to Put The Witcher 3 on PS3, 360

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is simply too massive an undertaking to fit on PS3 or 360.

Some projects simply require extra power. The developer’s vision is so massive that if they tried to put it on the PS3 and Xbox 360, the game would… well, break.

In a new interview published at MCV India, CD Projekt Red CEO Marcin Iwinski was asked if The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt could’ve been made for the last-gen systems. He left no ambiguity in his reply:

“It’s impossible. It would have to be a different game–a smaller game, not an open-world game, or with terrible loading times, with sacrifices in graphics.”

The hotly anticipated open-world RPG hits the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC some time this year. As for whether or not the team could bring The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings to the PS3, that won’t happen, either. Iwinski said they would’ve “loved” to do it but the process would’ve required another “year and a half” of development time. Well, personally, I don’t mind. I’d rather they focus on the new project, anyway.

Lastly, Iwinski was asked if the console versions of The Witcher 3 will be similar to the PC version. The good news for console fans is that yes, the PS4/Xbox One iterations will be pretty much the same because after all, they’re “actually brand new PCs.”

This game might be scary big

And when I say “big,” I mean every possible interpretation of that adjective as it applies to video games. We could be looking at a revolutionary interactive world, with so much to do that it’s downright frightening. Think you can handle it?
