A year ago, it was discovered that Gears of War 3, one of the seminal titles in the Xbox exclusive franchise, was used in Unreal Engine 3 testing and made to run on the PlayStation 3.
Now, a year later, that build has been released to the public through Twitter user PixelButts, marking a decade since the build was made and the time a coveted Xbox franchise made its way to a Sony system.
Those keen enough can go download the build here at archive.org, though unfortunately, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to get it running due to technical constraints.
“Although this data is a decade old and has circulated that whole time, I was the first to get it working,” said PixelButts in a follow-up tweet, after stating that they will not be providing any tech support for those looking to grab their Dualshock 3’s.
This build might never have been intended to be seen by the public, and it might have only been part of a test, but it is still an interesting piece of gaming history to see such a staunchly Xbox franchise running on PlayStation hardware.
