Following the launch of the Resident Evil 3 remake, the Resident Evil 8 rumor mill is operating at maximum capacity. New information from the Biohazard Cast (via PushSquare) says that the next mainline RE title could be called Resident Evil: Village, or some variation using that subtitle.
As pointed out by Derrick Ynadura over at the Biohazard Cast, the first four letters in “village” could be construed as the Roman numeral “VIII.”
It wouldn’t be the first time a game in the Resident Evil franchise used Roman numerals in its title. Resident Evil 7 uses a similar format in its primary art and box art, making the last two letters in “evil” appear as the Roman numeral “VII.”
Though all of this should be taken with a Nemesis-sized grain of salt, the new rumor lines up with previous information shared by Dusk Golem on Twitter regarding the game’s alleged 2021 release date, platforms, and gameplay changes.
As expected, Capcom has not commented on the rumors, and while more sources continue to crop up surrounding the information, there is currently no official confirmation of its validity.
Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more on the potential Resident Evil 8 as we learn more. Hopefully, we’ll have something substantial sooner rather than later.
