Super Smash Bros. 3DS has a lot of characters, but one of the most unusual is the Mii Fighter. For the first time in the series, you can create your own character from your Mii and customize it however you want it.
There are 3 fighting styles to choose from, equipment to change your stats, and 3 different specials to choose from in each category. You can even change your Mii Fighter’s headgear and outfit.
I’ll give you an overview of all the customization you can do with the Mii Fighter.
This guide will go over Mii Fighter Customization including:
- Equipment – What it is and how it changes your fighting.
- Specials – All the special moves you can choose from.
- Headgear and Outfit – Cosmetic changes to your Mii Fighter.
Equipment – Choosing the stats you want
There are 3 slots for equips and they change your character’s stats. The 3 stats are:
- Attack – How much damage you do
- Defense – How much damage you can take
- Speed – How fast you move
Choosing a piece of equipment raises certain stats and may lower others. You cannot put the same equipment in more than one slot. Some equipment give bonuses as well, like the Air Attacker Boots below. The Improved air attacks bonus adds 1.15 times the attack power while airborne.
Combining the stats and effects of equipment with the right Specials can greatly increase the effectiveness of your Mii Fighter and alter the play style. You don’t have to use all 3 slots, you can use 1, 2 or even no slots of equipment.
Specials – Show me your moves
There are 3 different types of Mii Fighters, Brawler, Gunner, and Swordfighter. Each of these have their own specials to choose from. There are 4 total special slots, Neutral, left or right on the circle pad, Up, and Down. By default, specials are done by pressing “B” with the previous directions on the Circle pad.
Each type of special has 3 to choose from and the dramatically change how your Mii Fighter plays. I’ll list the types of Specials below for each type of fighter.
Brawler
Neutral
- Shot Put – Throws and iron ball a very short distance.
- Ultimate Uppercut – A devastating uppercut charged up with all your might.
- You can charge this special. If you fully charge it, it does more than twice the damage.
- Exploding Side Kick – A kick so explosive, it’ll set the world on fire (or at least your leg).
Side
- Onslaught – Rush forward to deliver a flurry of kicks, and then finish with an uppercut.
- You have to connect with the first hit to start the chain.
- Burning Dropkick – A Fiery Dropkick with decent range. Charge it up to really turn on the heat.
- It goes farther when you charge it up. Great for getting back to the stage if you need to travel a far distance.
- Headache Maker – Pummel your foes with a swing of your arms as you descend from a jump.
Up
- Soaring Axe Kick – Two part move. Does a flip kick on the way up and downward axe kick on the way down.
- Helicopter Kick – A series of spin kicks delivered while soaring diagonally into the air.
- Piston Punch – A storm of rising punches, carrying both you and your foes into the air for a high-flying combo.
Down
- Head-On Assault – Crash headfirst into the ground. Hits nearby foes with area damage as well.
- Feint Jump – Flip forward, then press “B” to do a diving kick.
- You will do a flip over your foe and change direction. The kick will send you back to your original direction.
- Foot Flurry – A flurry of kicks. Sends you forward when on the ground, but you stay in place and kick downward when used in the air.
Gunner
Neutral
- Charge Blast – A straight Plasma shot. You can charge it for extra power.
- Lazer Blaze – A fast lazer attack.
- Grenade Launch – A grenade thrown in an arc that explodes on impact.
Side
- Flame Pillar – Fires a blast diagonally towards the ground, creating a miniature inferno on impact.
- Stealth Burst – A shot that explodes when you release the button.
- The longer you hold it, the farther it goes. It turns invisible after a certain point and explodes as soon as you release the button.
- Gunner Missile – Fires a guided missile. Holding it over like a smash attack makes a super missile.
Up
- Lunar Launch – Shoot downward to rocket yourself into the air. Hit foes below you.
- Cannon Uppercut – An uppercut powered by a downward blast that can dunk airborne foes.
- Arm Rocket – Uses a jet to propel you into the air. You can change the direction of flight to left or right. Does not do damage.
Down
- Echo Reflector – Reflects enemy projectiles, sending them back even stronger than they were before.
- Bomb Drop – Throws a bomb that rolls a short distance on the ground before exploding.
- Absorbing Vortex – Sucks in enemy projectiles and heals you.
Swordfighter
Neutral
- Gale Strike – A blade technique that sends a tornado hurtling forth.
- Shuriken of Light – Throws a small light shuriken straight forward.
- Blurring Blade – A flurry of sword slashes. Charge it for extra power.
Side
- Airborne Assault – Flip forward to strike a foe, and rebound off of them.
- Slash Launcher – Rush through your foe, and launch them in the air.
- Chakram – A throwing weapon that you can guide with directional inputs.
Up
- Stone Scabbard – A high jump followed by a firm downward strike with your sword.
- Skyward Slash Dash – A flurry of slashes that sends you in the direction of your choice.
- Hero’s Spin – A spinning sword attack that sends you upward if used in the air.
Down
- Blade Counter – Counter an enemy attack. The strength of your strike depends on your foe’s attack.
- Reversal Slash – Creates a rainbow that reflects projectiles. Can also flip foes around if it hits them.
- Power Thrust – A high-speed strike that goes forward on the ground and diagonally down in the air.
Headgear and Outfit – Dress to impress
You can change what your Mii Fighter wears into combat by choosing different headgear and outfits.
This is merely cosmetic and has no effect on how your Mii fights. Changing the outfit also changes the way the weapon looks. If you look at the header image and the image below, you’ll notice a difference.
That’s it for my Mii Fighter customization basics. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for plenty of other Smash Bros. 3DS content.
