You first encounter green, glowing metal early in God of War: Ragnarok and will interact with it for dozens of hours after breaking it for the first time. Getting your hands on the ability to break the green metal isn’t hard at all — in fact, it’s free, and it’s impossible to progress the story without it.
In this guide, we’ll show you exactly where you get the Sonic Arrows tool to break green metal and give a brief primer on its use later in the game.
How to Get Sonic Arrows
After finishing the opening section of God of War: Ragnarok in Midgard, you’ll arrive in Svartalfheim in search of Tyr, the Norse god of war. When you reach the city past the Aurvangar Wetlands, you’ll see your first instance of green metal blocking your way from looting a few chests on the dock in Nidavellir.
Initially, you cannot get beyond the barrier, but turn around and head just a bit further into the city until you meet Sindri the dwarf. He’ll say he has something for you, and while you can ignore him for a moment, eventually, you’ll be unable to go any further without speaking to him.
Do so, and a cutscene will play where he’ll restring Atreus’ bow with Sonic Arrows, which you can then point at the large green metal blocking a sewer tunnel.
All it takes to break green metal now is to aim at it and command Atreus to fire. The metal will warp and implode, opening the way to whatever it was blocking before.
You’ll find that the simple green metal puzzles become significantly more complex as the game progresses. You’ll often need to find different vantage points or go to out-of-the-way parts of an area to use the Sonic Arrows. Your NPC companions will, of course, be all too happy to remind you ad nauseam of what you need to do, where, and when until you get it right.
Despite that and other minor annoyances, God of War: Ragnarok is a fantastic, enormous game, meaning we’ll be covering plenty of other topics in the coming days. Stay tuned to our guides hub for more.
