What appeared to be a new Spider-Man game, subtitled Miles Morales, was announced yesterday during the PlayStation 5 Future of Gaming reveal show. Since its reveal, however, there’s been a bit of confusion about whether it’s a full-fledged game or an expansion.

The long and short is that it’s reportedly a stand-alone game, not an expansion. According to Insomniac Games, which released a statement through Twitter, “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the next adventure in the Marvel’s Spider-Man universe. We will reveal more about this standalone games at a future date.”

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier also said that according to sources, the game “is a brand-new standalone game similar in scope to Uncharted Lost Legacy.” Lost Legacy is a spinoff from the mainline Uncharted series.

The confusion of whether Spider-Man: Miles Morales would be a full sequel to 2018’s Spider-Man or a DLC adventure attached to a remastered version of that game began with a Telegraph interview with the Simon Rutter, EVP head of European Business at Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Rutter stated that Spider-Man: Miles Morales is “more akin to an expansion bolted on to an upgraded version of the original title.” He went on to mention “expansion” again when saying that Spider-Man on PS5 will see “major enhancements to the game and the game engine…”

Though Insomniac has released the above statement clarifying the state of Spider-Man: Miles Morales, there’s still a bit of confusion if Spider-Man will release on the PS5 separately, or what Morales‘ launch will look like. We’ll just have to wait and see. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more on Spider-Man: Miles Morales as we learn it.
