Stardew Valley is an indie farming simulation RPG inspired by Harvest Moon and created by developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone. Once the player has created their character in-game, they become the recipient of a small house with a plot of land in a small town called Stardew Valley. This land once belonged to their grandfather, and it’s their responsibility to restart the farm once again.
There are quite a few mods out there for Stardew Valley, with features that range from keeping track of crops and NPCs to flat out god-modding the game.
To install any mod, you need to have Stardew Modding API (SMAPI), which launches the game with mod support and lets mods interact directly with the game’s code. Before installing anything, make sure you have backups of all your clean, unmodded game saves.
Now with that done, here are six of the best mods out there for Stardew Valley!
Look Up Anything
Modder: Pathoschild
Want to know what gift to give which NPC or when your crops will be ready to harvest? Then try out Look Up Anything!
This mod allows you to see live information about whatever you have your cursor hovering over when you press F1. The mod works on things in the world, your character’s inventory, the calendar, the social menu, or shops.
NPC Map Locations Mod
Modder: Bouhm
Having trouble locating an NPC? Sick of having to Alt+Tab to search the Wiki for them? Then the NPC Map Locations mod is perfect for you!
This mod shows NPC locations in real-time on the map -- and it includes various settings so you can customize it shows NPCs.
Get Dressed
Modder: Jinxiewinxie
Do you like to change your avatar's appearance in games? Switching hairstyles or eye color? Then you’ll want to install the Get Dressed mod. It adds a dresser with a mirror to the bedroom in each of the farmhouse upgrades. All you have to do is right click to open up the character customization menu and start making changes.
It also adds in about 110 new accessories to the game.
Harvest with Scythe
Modder: That NorthernMonkey
Harvest with Scythe is a quality of life mod that changes the behavior of all flowers and crops -- including crops in the trellis and those that regrow. It allows you to harvest your crops with the Scythe, making harvesting that much quicker.
CJB Item Spawner
Modder: Cjbok
This one is considered a cheat mod. If it’s your first time playing the game, I suggest staying away from this mod, so you don’t ruin your starting experience with it. What CJB Item Spawner does is allow you to press a key on your keyboard to open a menu with a large number of items you can spawn. You can also change the quality of the item before spawning it.
Loved Labels
Modder: Jinxiewinxie
Loved Labels is another mod by jinxiewinxie. It adds a tooltip near your cursor when you mouse-over a pet or farm animals, letting you know if they have been petted or not. This is great for keeping track of which animals need some love.
