Minecraft 1.9 is still very new, and it's going to take a while for mod support to catch up, but don't worry! There are still plenty of awesome mods for you to play, and more being added every day. Here are eight of the best mods that are updated and functional as of right now.
Tinker's Construct
Tinker's Construct was already one of the best mods around for Minecraft, so it's awesome that the creators have already updated it for 1.9. TC adds a ton of new tools and materials to the game and allows you to make some really awesome stuff, including a bunch of cool builds and items that involve slimes.
Biomes o' Plenty
This is another classic Minecraft mod with a lot of support, so it's no surprise that it's already been updated for 1.9. The mod is exactly what it sounds like — it adds a bunch of biomes to the game on top of the ones that already exist, including awesome locations like alps, bayou, and brushland, with new materials to go with them.
Just Enough Items
This is a really cool mod that helps you organize your storage and inventory and makes some otherwise tedious tasks a lot simpler. It's not groundbreaking, but it's really nice to have, and it works well in 1.9.
JourneyMap
JourneyMap is a really cool mod that lets you map your progress in your world in real time. It draws a detailed map of your progress and helps you keep track of where you've been. Great for explorers, builders, and anyone who wants to be able to see their progress.
Inventory Tweaks
Another simple mod, this can be a real lifesaver when it comes to inventory management, especially if you're someone who tends to pick up a lot of stuff while mining or exploring. Among other things, it automatically replaces picks when they break, lets you sort your inventory with one button, and adds a bunch of shortcuts to help you stay organized.
Better Foliage
This is a really simple cosmetic mod, but it's a great one. It's exactly what it sounds like — prettier, more detailed, better foliage. If you spend a lot of time wandering in the overworld, you come to really appreciate the improvements.
Blood Magic
There are a lot of magic mods out there, but this is one of the better ones, and it's been updated for 1.9. It adds a lot of cool new items and spells, as well as a lot of danger and threats from new foes. If you're looking to add a little excitement and variety to your world, this is a great mod.
Optifine
I should be clear, Optifine is in alpha for 1.9, but it does work...most of the time. Even in an incomplete state, it's still one of the best visual mods ever made, and definitely worth your time. It completely overhauls the Minecraft world in an amazing way.
