Everyone who has played The Last of Us will agree that it was an intense and emotional journey which well and truly plucked at our heart-strings! The storyline and gameplay was thrilling from beginning to end and the character development and relationship between the player and Ellie was perfectly executed.
Now there is a chance to re-immerse ourselves in this heart-breaking story all over again, but in a completely new light; as a live theatre experience!
PlayStation, Naughty Dog, and Geoff Keighley have teamed up to make this a reality for one night only. There will be live readings from selected scenes of the game by the principle actors: Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, Merle Dandridge, Hana Hayes, and Annie Wersching. All of who will be under the direction of Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog.
Accompanying these actors will also be Academy Award winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla to ensure that the atmosphere conveys as much emotion as was felt within the game during these scenes.
The details were announced by Geoff Keighley on the PlayStation blog. He states:
“How this all fits together will remain a bit of a mystery until it happens, but trust me when I say it will be a very special evening.”
I don’t think many people need convincing, it sounds pretty special to me!
The event is unfortunately all sold out (surprise, surprise) at Broad Stage in Santa Monica where the show goes live on Monday, 28th July at 7.00pm PT/3.00am BST. But thanks to the power of technology select parts of this event will be streamed live globally through Twitch, YouTube and PlayStation Network’s Live Event Viewer.
Thank you, Internet!
