If you want to rescue every Waddle Dee and 100% Kirby and the Forgotten Land, you’ll have to complete every mission in the game, including the hidden missions. In addition to clearing a level and finding the hidden Waddle Dees, each stage in the pink puffball’s latest adventure has three additional secret missions to uncover.
Including optional post-game content, The Forgotten Land has 40 stages across 7 worlds, which means you’ll be tracking down 120 Hidden Missions if you’re going for true completionist status.
These Hidden Missions are not revealed when you begin a level. You must play to uncover them, but luckily, discovering all of them is a fairly forgiving process that should come naturally. And if it doesn’t, there is a failsafe mechanic ensuring that as long as you keep playing, you’ll never get completely stuck.
How to Unlock Hidden Missions in Kirby and the Forgotten Land
As you’ll likely discover during the first stage of Kirby and The Forgotten Land, the easiest way to unlock Hidden Missions is by doing them. This sounds silly, but you’ll likely stumble into many hidden objectives naturally. The catch is that while some Hidden Missions are one-and-done tasks — i.e. finding a secret area — others require you to repeat an action multiple times or discover a set of items throughout the level.
For example, a Hidden Mission in the first level after the tutorial requires you to make Kirby bloom 5 tulips that can be found scattered around the stage. you’ll need to find them all in one run to complete the mission, but once you’ve found one tulip, the mission will be permanently marked in the pause menu as unlocked. This applies to all the similarly structured collection-based Hidden Missions in The Forgotten Land.
While that is the most common way of finding Hidden Missions, there is another way the game will uncover them for you. If any missions are still locked once you complete a level, one — and just one at a time — will be automatically unlocked when you finish. This doesn’t mean the objective will be completed; it just means that you’ll be able to see what the Hidden Mission is, so that next time through the level, you know exactly what you’re looking for.
The catch here is that Kirby and the Forgotten Land only uncovers one Hidden Mission per run. So if you blasted through a level and missed every Hidden Mission by the time you rescue the caged Waddle Dees at the end, only one Hidden Mission will be revealed. Thankfully, if you play the level again, you’ll unlock one more mission with each consecutive victory. At most, you’ll have to play a stage three times to see every Hidden Mission it has to offer.
Using these two methods in tandem encourages you to experiment and explore the levels, but it doesn’t punish you when you miss something. Once again, the best advice we can give is to play the game as you would and let your curiosity lead you in the right direction. If worse comes to worst, you can just replay the level and more information will be surfaced.
