Fortnite’s Season 3 has kicked off with a bang, launching new limited-time modes as the Lunar New Year events are still underway (including the search for the llama, crab, and fox buildings during Battle Royale matches).
A solid flow of new content has defined this early access phenomena, with the royale dragon glider now available in the item shop and a battle pass for Battle Royale fanatics up for grabs for 950 V-Bucks.
The biggest change right now is the Solid Gold limited time event, which takes the already nuts 100-player battles and makes them significantly more deadly with only one minor tweak.
The updates keep on coming to Fortnite Battle Royale season 3!
What is Fornite’s Solid Gold Event?
So what’s up with this Solid Gold event and why should you check it out? All loot drops from gold chests will automatically feature legendary gear instead of the usual randomized drop scheme that could have items in the common, uncommon, rare, or epic categories.
This means you are going to get far fewer shotguns, SMGs, and revolvers from gold chests, as well as none of the lower damage versions of any guns. Instead, players will find far more slow-firing (but ultra-high-damage) sniper rifles, RPGs, high-end assault rifles, grenade launchers, miniguns (woo-hoo!) suppressed pistols, and the all-new hand cannon in loot chests.
If you never manage to find anything good in Fortnite chests or when you scavenge off dead players, now is the time to jump in and try out the best equipment you can find in the game. This limited time event is currently available in Fortnite Battle Royale squads mode only (so no Solid Gold drops in singles or duos matches).
Because everyone will have killer gear nearly from the moment they land, you will need to work in tandem with your group even more than usual, as four players with high-damage sniper rifles or legendary assault rifles will chew through a lone wolf solo player pretty much instantly.
Obviously, you should stay away from wide-open areas, where snipers can take advantage of good sight lines — and be ready to throw up walls in an instant to keep your health from dropping immediately when you get ambushed. Keeping to the edge of the storm may not be a bad idea, either, or at least working with your crew to build some defenses and make it harder for the enemy to get to your squad.

More Limited Time Modes Arriving
Solid Gold isn’t the only new addition arriving for Fortnite Battle Royale in the coming weeks. There are no less than five limited modes currently slated to arrive between now and April, including a tweak on the smash-hit that was the insane 50 vs 50 mode from a few months back.
Besides limited time options, there’s another paradigm-changing item drop coming soon: jet packs! Because Fortnite wasn’t zany enough already, right? We don’t have a specific release date yet, but I’d expect to see this one drop in early March.
Time to hone those sniping skills, because people zipping around in the air will be easy pickings from those hiding on rooftops at Tilted Towers or hanging out near barn entrances at Anarchy Acres.
