The result is the anticipated survival/horror title from Mikami’s Tango Gameworks studio, The Evil Within. Publisher Bethesda has announced an official launch date today, too: August 26 for North America and three days later for Europe. The horrifying game will come to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Designed “embody the meaning of pure survival/horror,” The Evil Within will boast highly detailed environments, an ever-growing sense of tension and anxiety, and what should be a decent narrative.

Players will take the role of as Detective Sebatian Castellanos, who has been sent to investigate a series of sickening murders. During the course of this investigation, the detective discovers a “mysterious and powerful force.” After that, it’s just a matter of surviving the unimaginable…

If you’re prone to nightmares, you might want to avoid this one. It has the potential to haunt your dreams for weeks, and that wouldn’t be pleasant.

Is this the Resident Evil for a new generation?

Resident Evil has become something else, as most die-hard survival/horror fans will tell you. It’s more about action these days, which is not what the horror purists want. That’s why The Evil Within could become the go-to franchise for such individuals in the new generation. Yes, if the game is successful, Bethesda plans to turn it into a series, so give it a try!
