More than 1,500 cheaters have been banned from Blizzard’s new shooter so far. The group of cheaters, which was mostly made up of Chinese players, are permanently banned from Overwatch. But that alone wasn’t enough for Blizzard, so all the players also had their names posted on Blizzard’s official forums as the ultimate badge of shame
When it comes to competitive gaming, it’s important to make sure that the game is fair for all players. Since Overwatch now has more than 7 million players, and is becoming a more and more likely candidate as the next big eSport, Blizzard is determined to do everything possible to keep it that way.
As one determined former cheater found out, the ban goes very deep. When he attempted to buy another copy of the game and install it under a different account, he still found that he was banned from the game. Nothing, including changing the processor ID data, changing the MAC addresses, or any other identifying information could get him back online.
While it may seem harsh, Blizzard’s commitment to keeping their game balanced by punishing cheaters is great for anyone who wants the game to stay fair for all players.
