20 Million Tarnished Have Purchased Elden Ring Since Release

Elden Ring's reign of supremacy continues as Bandai Namco has revealed its 2022 title has sold 20 million copies since last year.

Elden Ring was one of the biggest successes of 2022. Despite releasing relatively early in the year, the game remained a talking point for many on social media well into December and would even win Game of the Year at The Game Awards. Some were blindsided by just how well the game did, but it was no surprise to fans of Dark Souls. This latest update on its sales figures is sure to be surprising to everyone, however.

Bandai Namco and FromSoftware have revealed that their latest title has managed to sell 20 million copies since releasing last February. Just shy of its first year anniversary, Elden Ring has become one of the most successful titles of the latest console generation. That’s an incredible number of sales, especially for a series notorious for being difficult.

In just under a month, FromSoftware’s punishing action RPG shifted around 10 million units. That would have been good enough for any other brand-new IP or franchise, but Elden Ring wasn’t done. Later in the year, that sales figure was updated to around 16.6 million copies. While the steam might be running out of Elden Ring’s sails, it has still managed to be a tremendously big hit for its publisher.

FromSoftware hasn’t spoken about any DLC for its smash hit, but I would put money on some getting announced in the near future. Bandai Namco would be out of its mind to not capitalize on the success it has here, though it might want to put efforts into developing a sequel versus expanding the world of the Lands Between.
