It seems a new fighter is coming to the ring in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax: Rise Kujikawa.
First introduced in Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 as a teen idol, Rise always took back seat and narrated the action on the field, supporting the party by buffing and healing at regular intervals. She also took the job of commentator in the original Persona 4 Arena. This will be the first time that she will be an actual playable character.
Bridging the gap.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, known as Persona 4: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex hold in Japan, is the sequel to the original Persona 4 Arena. The game features characters from both Persona 4 and Persona 3, bringing the two games together. Ken Amada from Persona 3 was also announced as a playable fighter for Ultimax.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax was originally announced with Persona 5, Persona 4: Dancing All Night, and Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth in November 2013. The games have since been confirmed for a U.S. release.
Rise will not only be a playable character in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, but will also be featured in the PS Vita title Persona 4: Dancing All Night. Taking place six months after the events of Persona 4, Dancing All Night is a rhythm game that will feature remixes of tracks from Persona 4. The game will release in Japan in fall of 2014. The game has a 2015 release window for the U.S.
It will be interesting to see how Atlus will approach Rise in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax…
She has never been an actual playable character, let alone a fighter in the series. In a way, this has me excited; Rise was one of my favorite characters in Persona 4. How Atlus will translate a support character into a fighting game is what makes me really curious. Hopefully she will be a fun and worthwhile character to play when the game releases on the PS3 and Xbox 360 this fall.
