Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda announced the release of a brand-spanking-new console role-playing game for December.
After Matsuda brought it up in the latest issue of Famitsu, he said, “Actually, right now, we’re working on a new RPG specifically for consoles and it isn’t a remake.”
Future plans for other announcements about the game are not confirmed, as Matsuda added that the company will begin to talk about the game more once December comes around; they will then “go from there.”
Some suspected venues where these announcements could possibly come up include The Game Awards 2014 and Sony’s PlayStation Experience. The Game Awards celebrate new video game premieres and awards, while the Sony PlayStation Experience lets attendants get hands-on with upcoming games and meet with game developers from Sony to get inside details and info.
While both events are scheduled for early December, these venue details are not confirmed. Matsuda hasn’t said a word about the game itself, either — what it could be, or even what consoles they intend to target. Rest assured, however, the president hasn’t left players completely in the dark with regards to game development plans.
“I believe we should have a wide variety of games to announce after the new year arrives. These are projects that began after I assumed the role of president at Square Enix. We’re going to have a lot to show for both Japan and overseas markets.”
It may be uncertain what kind of game fans should anticipate, but since December is just around the corner, the wait might not be so bad after all.
