Yesterday Almir of OVERKILL, took to the Steam Payday 2 community page to write an apology.
He starts off talking about how the last few weeks (everything since Crimefest ended) have been really hard on the Payday community.
“Players have been angry with us, media have written about us en masse and our volunteer moderators went on strike. For all the distress we’ve caused the past few weeks, I’d just like to take the time and say that we’re sorry. We’ve done a lot of things right in the past, but these past few weeks we screwed up.”
He then talked about how he knows they need to do something to improve the situation and said “We need to get better at many things.”
There is a link to a two hour long interview with Almir where he talks to volunteer moderators about his thoughts on the whole controversy surrounding the game right now. The two big topics of discussion were the stat boosting gun skins, which were released during Crimefest this year, and the Complete Overkill pack. The Complete Overkill pack was released recently and it was met so a ton of community backlash.
Later in his apology on the community page, Almir talked a little about what he is planning on doing to improve the future of the game. He has set up meetings with Last Bullet, PeaseMaker (one of the most active Russian players) and I am not a spy (he is a well-known and trusted modder for the Payday 2 community). He said that he plans on talking to all of them to try and figure out what can be done to improve the game.
The last change that he talked about has some people concerned. Starting next week eight OVERKILL developers will become very active on the community forums and will communicate with players. Some players feel that this is a way to try and censor what can and can’t be said on the forums. People feel that if players begin to complain about what is being done with Payday 2 their comments will be deleted so that others cannot see what is being said.
OVERKILL really needs to make a plan and get it 100% right this time. Over the last year the team at OVERKILL has slowly killed the game for many players, including me. They really need to do some kind of damage control and really figure out what they can do to move past what has happened before players just give up on this game completely.
