Last night via teaser trailer Square-Enix promised an announcement tomorrow about Dues Ex: The Fall.
Before The Fall
I had bought Deus Ex: Human Revolution a while back with the intent to play, but never got around to it. So this morning I pulled it out and decided this was the day I would finally get around to trying it; I wanted to get a feel for the franchise before speculating on The Fall.
Being a hardcore gamer, I wanted to go for the highest difficulty. Man, was that a bad idea. I got annihilated over and over in the intro sequence, so I took it down to Challenge difficulty. While I still died a few times I managed to get through the first main story mission with relatively few OMGWTF moments.
From the little bit I’ve played, the game almost feels like Metal Gear Solid without the iconic characters. Granted there are differences, but the basic concept of promoting stealth over fighting exists within both franchises. I won’t discuss the story much because I really haven’t gotten very far. Also I don’t want to spoil the story for anybody who hasn’t played Human Revolution. What I will say is interactions have an impact on the story; conversations change based on the responses you choose. So far I’m enjoying it, and will continue to play through the game when I have spare time.
THE FALL
Now for speculation!
From what I’ve seen, there is nothing more than a 5 second teaser trailer and a tweet from the developer, Eidos Montreal. However, Square-Enix has apparently reserved several domain names for Deus Ex: The Fall.
The teaser trailer itself just shows the name, Deus Ex: The Fall, and a date with a voice in the background saying, “Are we ready to begin?” Square-Enix and Eidos Montreal gave us just enough to lure us in, and bring us back for the big announcement tomorrow.
Eidos Montreal’s tweet only asked followers, “Are you ready for The Fall?” They have since been silent.
Common speculation seems to lead to this being a follow up the the previous game, Human Revolution. Based on my progress in the game so far I hope the speculators are right. Deus Ex is home to an interesting world and I’d like to explore it more in depth.
If speculations about a new Deus Ex game are true, the only thing I’d like to see changed from the previous title is better character animation. Motions aren’t organic enough, so I hope they get fixed. I would definitely like to see more sneaking, shooting, and hacking in the future. So, like all of you, I’ll be looking for the announcement tomorrow to see what the future holds for Deus Ex.
