Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was released today for current generation consoles in North America, hot on the heels of retailers who released it before launch earlier this week.
The game is the newest title in the main Assassin’s Creed franchise, and thrusts players into a daring world of swashbuckling and piracy. Set in the “Golden Age of Piracy” at the beginning of the 18th Century, 1715.
Following the story of Edward Kenway, yet another assassin ancestor of Desmond Miles, as he journeys through over 50 unique locations including Havana, Kingston, and Nassau, Bahamas.
Returning to their evil ways is Abstergo Entertainment a subsidiary of Abstergo Industries. Players in the present timeline will stealthily hack and explore their ways through the companies offices in Montreal, Quebec.
Players will welcome a return to a more open world and say good-bye to the scripted missions of Assassin’s Creed III. New features include:
- Day One DLC
- An upgradeable pirate vessel called the Jackdaw
- A 60/40 split between land and naval exploration
- PIRATES! Including the fearsome Blackbeard!
This all sounds pretty awesome unfortunately PC gamers and Wii U owners in Europe will have to wait a few more weeks before they can get their hands on Black Flag.
Multiplayer will return but will only be land-based. The recruitment system from Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood has also been updated.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag will be a launch title both next generation consoles, the PS4 and Xbox One.
