Back 4 Blood Gets Delayed, Open Beta Announced

Back 4 Blood won't be coming this summer after all, but there will be a beta period to tide fans over.

Back 4 Blood, the upcoming third-person zombie shooter from Turtle Rock Studios, has been delayed to October 12, 2021, the development studio announced today on Twitter. The game was originally planned for a June 22, 2021 launch. However, the summer months won’t be barren. Turtle Rock also announced that a Back 4 Blood open beta would arrive sometime this summer.

As is often the case with these types of delays, the developer said that they would like to take more time with Back 4 Blood to make it something that will live up to not only their expectations but fans’ expectations as well.

The tweet reads:

Turtle Rock Studios is working hard to make Back 4 Blood the best game it can possibly be at launch, and the team needs more time to do this. We will release Back 4 Blood on October 12, 2021. We thank our community for its continued support and are excited to share that there will be an open beta this summer.

As of this writing, there is no word on when the summer open beta will be available or what platforms will have access to it. It’s also unclear if pre-ordering the game will give players access or not. We’ll just have to hold tight for more information on that front.

The co op shooter was first announced back in 2019. Its first gameplay trailer was shown at the Game Awards 2020 and was confirmed for release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. It immediately grabbed the attention of zombie-slayers and survival horror fans. Chris Ashton, Turtle Rock’s Design Director called it a “return to our [the studio’s] roots.”

Though Back 4 Blood looks eerily similar to another highly popular zombie-killing game from Valve — and even inconspicuously shares the number 4 in its name — it is not related to that franchise and is entirely its own thing. Stay tuned for more on Left 4 Dead 3 (erm) Back 4 Blood later this summer.
