The console war rages on with more and more releases becoming exclusive, or in this case, pre-exclusive, to a certain system. It seems that 2K/Gearbox’s upcoming title Battleborn will be no different. During the PlayStation press conference at Paris Games Week, Battleborn developers announced that PS4 players will get first hands on the open beta in 2016.
Although the closed technical test was conducted over the weekend, 2K and Gearbox assured us of an open beta on an undisclosed date next year. Assuming the developers will keep Battleborn‘s release date of February 9th, and provide later beta access to Microsoft and PC players, the beta is likely to hit PlayStation 4 around the middle of January.
In other Battleborn news, ISIC (as seen above), a sentient artificial intelligence driven mad by his own mind and bent on universal destruction, has just been announced as a playable hero.
2K and Gearbox have also released the identities of Battleborn‘s three competitive multiplayer modes.
- Capture – “It’s classic capture-and-control showdown between two teams of heroes. But more badass. Because we said so.”
- Meltdown – “Each team has to march waves of their minions to their death into the chompers at the ends of lanes on the map. Sounds like fun, right? Think of it like a homicidal robotic sport. You score points for every minion who throws themselves into the incinerator and the team with the most scrap metal, wins.”
- Incursion – “Playing Incursion, teams of heroes must defend their base from waves of AI-controlled minions. Meanwhile, you’re working together alongside your own minions to lead them to your opponent’s base. Then destroy it.”
Battleborn will be available for all systems February 9th, 2016, but players, especially on PS4, should be on the lookout for an announcement of the open beta sometime in January.
