You know that argument where PC gamers say that using gaming PCs are the best way to play first-person shooters? Well, part of the reason behind such a statement, besides better graphics, is that many of those players think that the keyboard and mouse combo are the best controls. Guess what else? Many people, even console players, agree with them. The team at DICE has seen this debate and recently announced that they are considering adding keyboard/mouse support for their highly anticipated game Battlefield 4.
According to an interview by AusGamers, DICE’s multiplayer producer Aleksander Grøndal says that the team is looking at how they can add support on next-gen consoles, specifically the PlayStation 4. He says,
“We have mouse and keyboard support for the PC obviously, but I can’t speak now specifically for next gen consoles. But if it makes sense in the Battlefield universe, for a Battlefield game, we’ll consider it.”
If the team decides to support keyboard/mouse controls on the PS4, then this opens the door for many other possibilities including cross platform play which has failed to catch on so far in the console space. If this happens, and it is an exclusive feature of the PS4, then this could also be another boost to the already humongous lead that Sony currently has over Microsoft in the console war.
While there is no official statement from DICE that says, “Yes, we will be supporting keyboard/mouse controls in BF4,” we can sit back and hope that this option will be available to us when we rank up that leaderboard later this year.
