Bethesda has released a trailer announcing Battlecry, a “32-player online team action game” that pits players against each other in brutal, stylized melee combat. In development by the Austin-based Battlecry Studios, the game has been confirmed as free-to-play, while players can “purchase the items [they] want – things to change your appearance or to add something special,” according to Executive Producer Rich Vogel.
While the game’s official site is chock-full of information about the games classes and setting, much of it is somewhat vague about the game’s core mechanics, other than citing “responsive, smooth controls” and “dynamic movement” as key features for the brawler.
No official release date for the game has been announced, and no information regarding platform availability is available on the main site. What we do know is the game takes place in a World War I-esque period, where ” open wars are a thing of the past and warriors, the chosen few, risk life and limb in imaginative WarZones.” The trailer itself suggests the game will have a fair amount of grit and gore available, but we’ll have to wait for a look at the actual gameplay on this one.
Bethesda has tackled the MMORPG, and is now setting its sights on the Free to Play world. Thoughts? Let ’em fly in the comments!
