As promised by Phil Spencer head of Xbox at Microsoft, the June system update for Xbox One will now include the Games with Gold program. We can now expect to see two free games a month on both Xbox platforms.
For the Xbox One, we will be able to get our hands on Max: The Curse of Brotherhood (normally $14.99) and Halo Spartan Assault (normally $9.99).
As for Xbox 360, Dark Souls (normally $19.99), Charlie Murder (normally $9.99) and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (normally $29.99) will all get the free treatment this month.
That is roughly $85 in games being given away this month. While Dark Souls and Charlie Murder are the normal freebies this month, Microsoft has added Super Street Fighter as an anniversary bonus game to give away for the one year anniversary of the Games with Gold program.
Max:The Curse of Brotherhood is a 2.5D side scrolling platformer. As Max, you must use physics based puzzle solving to help rescue your brother Felix from the evil lord Mustacho and his henchman. I suppose Felix shouldn’t have been playing with Max’s toys.
Halo Spartan Assault is a new take on the franchise with a third person, top down perspective on the battlefield. Taking place between the event of Halo 3 and Halo 4, you control the humans Edward Davis and Sarah Palmer in their struggle against the Covenant.
Dark Souls is an open world, action RPG where you play as a cursed warrior chosen to make a pilgrimage to the Undead Asylum and discover the fate of the dead. The game has been given very high praise for both its deep rooted mythology and unflinching difficulty. This is most likely why there was a boom in controller purchases around the time of Dark Souls’ initial release.
Charlie Murder is an action RPG beat-’em-up. The game has you take control of one of five members of the punk band Charlie Murder as you attempt to fight off a demonic army that has been raised by a former band member. Charlie Murder has been praised for both its killer soundtrack and hand drawn visual style. It was also created using Microsoft’s XNA toolset.
Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition improves upon the initial release by incorporating the changes made to the actual arcade editions of the game. These include balancing tweaks and the addition of Yun, Yang, Oni and Evil Ryu to the roster of playable characters.
So we hope that you have enough free swag to keep you busy for the next month and I, for one, can’t wait to see what Microsoft gives us for the next year as they continue to expand Game with Gold further on Xbox 360 and now with Xbox One.
