We now know more about the next tale of the Penitent One in Blasphemous 2. Revealed with a trailer during the Nintendo Indie World Showcase, the gothic Metroidvania platformer is expected to release in late summer 2023 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Here’s what we know about Blasphemous 2.
Set after the events of the Wounds of Eventide DLC for Blasphemous, the previously laid-to-rest Penitent One has been awoken to fight The Miracle once again. The world is non-linear, so you can play and learn the story how you want. Regardless of how you go about it, the Penitent One is set on stopping a new miracle birth that has been foretold.
The land is new, filled with new horrors, new bosses to beat, new NPCs, and new weapons to find. No longer will the Penitent One be locked to only using Mea Culpa; he’ll be able to find and equip a range of weapons featuring different styles and speeds of attack.
One thing missing from the sequel is the gore that dominated battle in the original. None of the battle scenes had gushing or splattering blood, nor were there brutal executions. These are stated to still be in the game, with more combos than the first, but were left out of the trailer, potentially as a surprise to those who play it once released.
That is what we currently know about Blasphemous 2. Check back for updates as more details emerge.
