The Xbox One has just released today, and already people have experienced issues with the disc drive on the inside the console. Here’s what avid gamer Ian Stokes had to say:
“I unwrapped it, plugged it in and fired it up. It was all going so well. Kinect was working beautifully, the interface was slick and easy to navigate. Then I popped a disc into the drive to start installing it and that’s when I heard the noise. It sounded like those clackers you get to put on the back of bicycle tyres to make them sound a bit like a motorbike. A few agonising seconds later and a message popped telling me the console could not read the disc.”
After the message popped up on the screen, he ejected the disc to see if there were any physical issues with the disc. The disc was completely fine and undamaged. Afterwards, he put a Blu-Ray disc into the Xbox One to see if the error would pop up again. Lo and behold, the sound emerged from the console again and the same message appeared.
Failed Fixes
Microsoft support has told people with the error to clean the disc off and put it back in the console. Of course, that solution doesn’t work and there’s only so much that one can do to try and fix the problem.
Ian contacted GAME customer support, and they told him to put the console upside down with a disc inside of it to fix the error. unfortunately, the alleged solution didn’t work either.

Fixes that Work
So far, there’s only one reported fix that works – you guessed it: Returning the console. Luckily for Ian, GAME support was responsive and friendly and sent him a replacement console (he bought it from GAME) right away.

Fail Rates
Ian asked GAME how common the error was, and out of the 133 consoles sold by GAME, 3 people reported the same error as Ian. This error is extremely uncommon, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t happen.
