Jumping that gun again, are we?
Fans of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 are already familiar with Amazon being the one to spill the beans. Early last year GameBlog reported that Amazon France had posted a product page for the game that was later pulled at the request of Activision.
All good things must come in pairs because according to PlayStationLifeStyle, Amazon Canada pushed out a new product page for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Game of the Year Edition to be released on May 21st and produced the following screenshot:
Now I’m not really one just to take things as read, so I went ahead and checked the link to the product page myself. But I can’t. Because it’s dead.
Looks like Activision may have worked its magic again. Last year when GameBlog refused to take down their news article, Activision proceeded to uninvite them from a preview event for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron and then cancel advertising campaigns that had been planned to run on the site. But don’t worry, Activision hasn’t yet tried to invite me to any swanky parties, so the threat of being uninvited won’t lose me any kind of sleep. I’ll still be here when you wake up—and feel like spreading the word.
This potential release of a GOTY for COD:BO2 does bring up some interesting questions though. The current big news on Activision’s side of things is the upcoming release of the Uprising DLC map pack for COD:BO2 on May 16th and no new word about this mysterious listing. One has to ask, what would be packaged in? Certainly the idea of a GOTY release before all the DLCs have even been released sounds a little odd… not exactly in Activision’s usual style. (Actively trying to save people money? What is this wizardry?)
Attempts have been made for any kind of confirmation from Activision, but so far they seem to be keeping mum on the subject. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
