With the arrival of the next generation of consoles, Call of Duty is hoping to be the cutting edge of first-person shooter. Activision announced the release date for their next COD title—Call of Duty: Ghosts.
COD: Ghosts will be a brand new game, featuring new stories, characters, and world, as well as being powered by the next generation Call of Duty engine. As CEO of Publishing Eric Hirshberg put it, “Infinity Ward set the gold standard for first person action for a generation, and they’re going to do it again with Call of Duty: Ghosts.”
Activision appears to be tying COD Ghosts to the release of the next generation Xbox, and their trailer announced that they will be part of the Xbox reveal event later this month.
This is a COD game, so it’s expected to be rated M, and the gameplay is unknown due to the game being in the early stages. But the release date has been set for Nov 5, which should be around the time Playstation and Xbox release their next generation of consoles. Activision has stated that they hope to reel in a whole new era of COD fans, and that “Infinity Ward is going all-in to create the next generation of Call of Duty worthy of the world’s greatest fans.
The game is available for pre-order now, and will be shown at the Xbox reveal event on May 21st. For my part, the word ghosts brings to mind Starcraft II and their Terran sniper class, but there is no clear idea of what kind of gameplay Ghosts will feature.
