Darkrai was the latest legendary Pokemon to appear in Pokemon GO, but as with the old pumpkins glowering at passersby on your front porch, its time has passed with the end of Halloween.

Since Darkrai’s appearance in Pokemon GO was a limited-time affair, the natural question is whether you can get Darkrai in a trade.

The answer is based on Darkrai’s status in the game.

Can You Trade Mythical Pokemon in Pokemon GO?

And that answer is no. Darkrai, like all the other limited-time legendaries, is tagged as Mythical, which is basically a fancy way of saying “special event Pokemon.” The only way to obtain these is, unfortunately, by taking part in the event while it’s running. Meltan is the sole exception to this rule, likely just due to promotional reasons.

Mythical Pokemon are those like Jirachi, Mew, and Celebi. So far, we haven’t seen rotating distributions or chances to acquire them; once the event is done, that’s it.

That doesn’t mean there will never be another chance to catch Darkrai, but it does mean it probably won’t happen for a while.
