The next super hero MMO has been Kickstarted!
This article is over 11 years old and may contain outdated information

Last Tuesday we reported on the City of Titans Kickstarter projectIn less time (Monday to be exact) than it takes a super hero to pull on his spandex uniform, this spiritual successor to the defunct MMO City of Heroes, reached their initial funding goal of $320,000. In fact, as of this article, they’re sitting at just over $378,000 with over 2,500 backers. And they still have 25 days to go.

Getting funded within a week is a pretty amazing feat, and is a sign that the gaming masses want another super hero MMO despite the fact that DC Universe Online and Champions Online are both still in existence. It also speaks to the fervent loyalty of the City of Heroes community.

Chris “Warcabbit” Hare, Project Lead for City of Titans thanked everyone on their Kickstarter page:

I’m pretty sure Kermit The Frog would just panic up and down the backstage for a while, then straighten up and head out front, in a perfectly calm, if somewhat choked voice, and thank everyone.

So that’s what I’m doing. Thanking you all. Each and every one of you, you deserve it.

We don’t. Yet. We have to earn your thanks. You’ve given us credit ahead of any possible reason, you’ve given us your promises. We have to deliver.

Here’s a very heart-felt “thank you” from Missing Worlds Media President, Sara Quinn:

Now that they’ve blasted through the initial funding required to get this game into production, stretch goals come into play. As certain dollar amounts are reached, additional features will unlock. Since they’ve already hit the $350,000 mark, an Android port of the avatar builder will be made. When the $400,000 goal is met, an iOS port of the avatar builder will also be released. At $450,000, a Mac version of the game will be released at the same time the game officially launches. And at the half million dollar mark, lies this hefty pot of gold …

Sky surfing? I can already see The Amazing Manhole Surfer shooting through the sky! Uh wait… that character name might not be the best choice after all.

As these stretch goals are bested, more treats will be made available (which haven’t been defined yet). Plus, all the extra money will also speed up production. And with the game tentatively set for a mid-to-late 2015 release, anything that gets this game into our grubby mitts faster is a good thing!

Stay tuned for more coverage as this particular city full of heroes flies through production.
