For any of you who follow Dota 2 will understand why that is a jaw dropping title. For those of you who don’t know, Na’Vi is a Ukrainian team who appeared in the finals of The International all three years, and won The International 2011.
This year Alliance came out of nowhere and won the finals against Na’Vi. Regardless, Na’Vi is sometimes referred to as the ‘power house team of Dota 2‘ and was just beaten by a US-based team.
This is a rarity, in my opinion, between League of Legends, Dota 2 and StarCraft II. The eSports scene has been dominated by Asian and European teams. It is only recently that US teams have started to catch on and become real competitors. Team Liquid came out and made an amazing performance against Na’Vi today and helped prove my hopes that US teams are getting better.
Team Liquid, after placing 7/8th in The International 3, has made a roster change and practiced heavily. The difference is proven by the dominating game play today. In the first match, Na’Vi came out on top, but in matches two and three, Liquid turned on a switch and left Na’Vi nothing to work with.
Maybe it was just an off day for Na’Vi, which gave Liquid just enough to win. I’m leaning more towards Liquid is a force to be reckoned with these days.
