Having found success with Everquest and Everquest II, Daybreak has taken a hard look at where Everquest Next has fallen on the scale the player base has set. After taking a hard look at where the game was headed, Daybreak’s president, Russell Shanks has announced the company is pulling the plug on the next installment in the world of Norrath. “In the case of EverQuest Next, we accomplished incredible feats that astonished industry insiders.” Russell stated in a letter to the community. “Unfortunately, as we put together the pieces, we found that it wasn’t fun.”
In an effort to keep to the community standards, the anticipated release of Everquest Next has been aborted. Daybreak has chosen to cut the game loose and concentrate on keeping the world Norrath alive and where their player base wants it to be in their other games. Russell also added that, “Inherent to the creative process are dreaming big, pushing hard and being brutally honest with where you land.” He made no mention to when, if ever, they would revisit Everquest Next.
