For $29.99 you can get your hands on one of the very first copies of the alpha phase of this game, thanks to Steam’s Early Access feature, which allows developers to sell the early alpha versions of their games. Gamers pay for Early Access and the full game provide feedback feedback to the developers along the way; helping them enhance the game and focus their development in those details that need to be fixed.

Bohemia Interactive, though, warns potential customers about the early stage of this game:

DayZ Early Access is your chance to experience DayZ as it evolves throughout its development process. Be aware that our Early Access offer is a representation of our core pillars, and the framework we have created around them. It is a work in progress and therefore contains a variety of bugs. We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle

The standalone version of DayZ was first announced at 2012’s Eurogamer Expo, where Dean Hall talked about a possible release date for it:

It has to be out before the end of the year; not just because we’ve committed to it but in order to achieve what we have to do. It has to be. There’s no ‘we hope it is’; it has to be . And it’s going to be cheap

It seems like it was delayed about a year, but with the enhancements the game has gone through, I believe the delay is totally excused, isn’t it?

Take a look at some in-game screenshots of the game:

And if this isn’t enough for you, there’s this gameplay video of an even earlier alpha of the game:
