Any potential buyers of Capcom’s Dead Rising 3 have reason to be excited today after a recent announcement by the game’s developer. The game worlds of the Dead Rising franchise have always been impressive in their size and Capcom has made the world of Dead Rising 3 even larger.
The first Dead Rising had players running around a shopping mall in the fictional town of Willamette, Colorado, documenting the zombie outbreak as the photojournalist, Frank West. The game takes place in a shopping mall in Willamette and the size of the map was fairly large at the time of the game’s release. However, Dead Rising needed to load the map each time a player entered a new area and it was a bit of a nuisance when having to traverse the length of the map.
When Dead Rising 2 was released, Capcom stated that there would be no loading screens as the game loaded the entire map during the initial loadup when the game starts. This was a big improvement over the original and was useful because Dead Rising 2‘s game world took place in the fictional setting of Fortune City, Nevada. Fortune City was larger than the Willamette shopping mall so having no load screens cut down on travel time significantly.
If you have not had a chance to see the trailer that Capcom released then click here. The trailer does not contain any in-game footage but contains the style of humor that the Dead Rising series has become known for.
Dead Rising 3 also features no load times but is reported as being larger than the first two game worlds combined. In fact, the game is so large, the developers figure that most players will be using cars about 50 percent of the time to traverse the map. To think, I used to only use cars in Dead Rising to run over zombies…
“With the Xbox One, we had the ability to make a way bigger world, and way more detail can go into that world,” said Josh Bridge, executive producer at Capcom Game Studio Vancouver.
“We wanted to go truly open world this time around,” Bridges said, “No more load screens.”
Which is impressive given the predicted size of the Dead Rising 3 world so it will be something for fans of the series to keep their eye out for. Right below is a gameplay video that was done at Gamescom 2013 and it showcases a portion of what players can expect when Dead Rising 3 releases with the Xbox One on November 22, 2013. And yes, that is a Laser Sword you see in the video and it looks glorious!
What has you most excited about Dead Rising 3? Is it the continued ability to craft your own “combo weapons?” Or maybe the fact that cars will play a key role in the way you will play the game? Sound off in the comments below and let me know what you think!
