Last week, it was rumored that Dead Rising 4, the next installment in the zombie killing franchise, would be announced at this year’s E3. It turns out those rumors were true, as Dead Rising 4 was announced on stage at Microsoft’s E3 press conference as an Xbox One/Windows 10 exclusive.
As shown in the trailer, the game will cast players as photojournalist Frank West — the star of the original game, the Case West DLC for Dead Rising 2, and the non-canonical sequel, Dead Rising 2: Off the Records. The game looks to be set in the Willamette, the setting of the first game, during Christmas. We see that Frank is once again decapitating zombies right back at the Willamette Mall from the first game, which is now the Willamette Mega Mall.
Unlike the original, it looks like we’ll get explore the whole town, as opposed to being stuck in the same location. The trailer also possibly hinted that Frank’s Photography will now be done with a smartphone, which he uses to take selfies and possibly post to Twitter.
Get ready to slay some zombies with Frank later this year, as Dead Rising 4 will be released this holiday season. No official release date has been announced, only the general time frame. This will be the franchise’s 10 year Anniversary, as the original Dead Rising was released on the Xbox 360 in August of 2006.
