Death Stranding is already in the hands of journalists and media types worldwide. As we inch ever closer to the game’s November 1 review embargo and its November 8 release, the hype around the latest Kojima title has already climbed well beyond fever pitch.
With that said, Sony is resting on its laurels. Indeed, the company is making sure it keeps the fires stoked with a steady stream of new and intriguing information.
The latest comes from Sony indirectly. By proxy of a new Best Buy product listing for the limited edition PS4 Pro Death Stranding console bundle, we now know how many gigs you’ll need to install Death Stranding.
The bundle’s promotional materials state that the game needs a minimum install size of 55GB. It’s tough to see. You can try by looking at the bottom of the promotional still below, but good luck. We don’t have fancy “full resolution” pop-outs (I’ll talk to dev about that …).
That said, 55GB is comparable to what we’ve come to expect from most recent AAA titles. Luckily for some players, like me, who already have a plethora of games installed on their PS4s, we’re not looking at something as substantial as Red Dead Redemption 2‘s 100+ gigs or the 101 needed for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Thank the maker.
Despite hard-drive requirements reaching stratospheric heights in the past, game install sizes have been part of the news as of late, with initial reports citing that Call of Duty Modern Warfare would impose a mammoth 175GB install size on PC players.
Though Activision later clarified that number as the suggested space for the base game and its future DLCs, such a demanding figure is still significant. The revelation has led some to voice concern over the metastatic growth of games on the platform.
