In this era of video gaming, downloadable content has become something that players just accept. In a way, players have this mindset that if the game doesn;t have DLC or poor online play, the game shouldn’t be played. I might be in the minority on this one but online play doesn’t make the game.
Nintendo has been late to the online party but they have worked on their online interactions and have finally arrived on the online scene. This has been more predominate with the 3DS and Wii U and with such games like Mario Kart 8. Another prime example is a game that Nintendo didn’t even see doing as well as it’s doing and that’s Hyrule Warriors. Downloadable content isn’t new to Hyrule Warriors since the game had various costume downloads depending on where you preordered the game as well as a Ganondorf costume pack for Club Nintendo members. Hyrule Warriors has vast locales and with the DLC, you get new ways to explore and fight!
Like with the Mario Kart 8 DLC, Nintendo has given the players a bonus for things like buying all the download packs or preordering them. Hyrule Warriors is no different. If you buy the Heroes of Hyrule DLC, which is all four available DLC’s, you’ll get your hands on the Dark Link costume right away and then access to the other packs as they become available. The Master Quest pack is already available and the Twilight Princess pack is as well. The other two, Majora’s Mask and Boss packs, aren’t downloadable till next year. The Master Quest pack gives you access to Link’s trusty steed, Epona, to ride into battle and you’ll need all the help you can get in the Master Quest Adventure Mode map. You’ll also get access to new missions and even more costumes for playable characters, like Cia. The other DLC will bring in new characters and challenges as well and will just as tough as the main story!
It’s good to see Nintendo finally getting their act together when it comes to online play. I’m not a huge fan of downloadable content but in this time of gaming, it has become the norm. I get the impression that Nintendo knows that the fan base isn’t used to DLC and might not be too receiving of the idea and that’s why they aren’t gouging the consumer. A prime example of that is getting the different colored Yoshi and Shy Guys to race with when preordering the Mario Kart DLC. It’s a good business plan by the Big N to give something extra to the fans but only time will tell if this plan continues.
