Eidos Montreal recently tweeted that their anticipated sequel Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will feature a New Game+ mode. In a video that followed, the Executive Game Director Jean-Francois Dugas and Gameplay Director Patrick Fortier revealed that Mankind Divided‘s New Game+ will add more to the game than some other New Game+ modes from recent games.
Oftentimes, New Game+ does nothing but make the game harder. With Mankind Divided, however, New Game+ will reportedly let players discover “even more about all the maps and the secrets” in the game. This is just one of the many new features introduced in this game. In a new edition of DXTV, Executive Audio Director Steven Szczepkowski shows us anything we might have missed from their E3 demo earlier this year.
What’s new?
Unlike its predecessor, Mankind Divided will offer rewards for stealth and combat objectives. In Deus Ex: Human Revolution, players often felt like they were obligated to play stealth, as the game offered more experience rewards for being stealthy and nonlethal. The developers ensure us that every playstyle will be viable and that players will not be punished for going in guns blazing.
Look familar? Yeah, we thought so too.
Weapons are now customizable in-game, similar to Crysis, where the player looks down at their weapon and selects which augmentations they would like. Other great elements seem to be inspired from other games as well, such as the newly improved cover system that is less cumbersome and makes us think of Gears of War or Mass Effect. You can now climb over cover rather than being limited to side-to-side movement.
We can also see an augmentation reminiscent of the “blink” ability from Dishonored that allows Adam Jensen to warp across short distances. We were happy to see in the gameplay footage that the annoying battery cell energy system has been done away with, so it looks like we will not have to eat protein powder by the jar in order to do stealth takedowns anymore.
To top it off, we learned that Australian actor Vernon Wells will voice Jim Miller in the upcoming game. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is set to release in 2016, and with each new bit of information revealed, it looks like it is very ready to win the hearts of Deus Ex fans new and old. We will keep watching until then.
