Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls has quietly become one of the best action RPGs of 2015. What started off as a heavily criticized and substandard title has seen a significant amount of production changes. I’ve been following this game since beta, and I’ll be the first one to admit that the title just wasn’t fun launch.
That being said, over the course of the last few years there have been significant improvements to the core system. One tinker here, another change a few patches later, and suddenly standing on the brink of a new content patch, we are really looking at an entirely unique and different game. So what’s changing in the upcoming patch?
Lore
From the Blizzard Website:
“Death continues to stretch its icy grasp over the world of Sanctuary. The terrors that await will crush the life from your fragile frames, and know that I shall be patiently observing from the threshold of existence. Let us examine the trials ahead together, that we might better prepare for your inevitable doom.”
New Zone
The biggest feature for this content patch is Greyhollow Island, a unique zone that ties into Adventure Mode. This new zone features several new monster types, environment effects, and places the player in a very Gothic setting.
he gameplay footage from the trailer definitely pays homage to the original Diablo. Everything looks darker, the environment dares you to explore instead of enticing you like the Diablo 3 maps did.
Set Dungeons
These are going to be custom designed set dungeons! Each dungeon features a pre-constructed dungeon that will unlock unique class specific gear.
Empowered Rifts
This gives players the opportunity to spend their gold to empower a Greater Rift, giving the player an opportunity to upgrade a Legendary Gem. Gold will vary depending on the tier of Greater Rift level attempted, only giving the bonus to players who actually complete the rift.
A full list of changes can be found here on the development blog post. This content patch releases 1/15/16, so get ready!
