If DICE can bring back Mirrors Edge, there’s always hope.
Fans of the Battlefield series (including myself) have been begging for a Battlefield: Bad Company 2 sequel. Swedish Studio DICE brought us the Original Bad Company back in 2008 with a sequel, Bad Company 2 in 2010. The Bad Company franchise is known for its amazing destructive environments brought to you by their Frostbite Engine. More importantly, in my opinion, it was the characters that set it apart from other games. Bad Company didn’t take itself seriously, in my opinion. Humor was something you didn’t see often enough in a realistic war FPS but Bad Company did it “oh so well”. Unfortunately DICE executive producer Patrick Bach delivered the news that there is no Battlefield: Bad Company 3 in development.
Right now, I would not say we have the bandwidth to do it at the DICE studio in Stockholm.
It’s understandable for DICE not to have the room to work on another Bad Company. With Battlefield 4 due out at the end of October and presumably planning a full years worth of action packed DLC like they did with Battlefield 3, DICE has a busy year ahead of them . Not to mention Star Wars: Battlefront, and a new Mirror’s Edge cyrrently in development, alongside its Frostbite 3 and Frostbite Go engines. Bach continued:
We can always find talented people around the world, The Bad Company series is by no means killed or anything, it’s still out there. I won’t say we’ll never build another Bad Company game, but right now we’re focusing on Battlefield 4.”
People thought that Mirrors Edge was a franchise with potential that would never get a sequel and here we are today, days after E3 with a new game in development. So in my opinion, there is always hope if fans ask enough.
