John Romero, co-creator of Doom, is working on a new shooter. This news comes in from the Super Joystiq Podcast Gamescom Special. The new shooter will be developed by Romero Games. Joystiq writes:
“‘I haven’t made a shooter since 2000. So I’m basically starting to work on another one,’ John Romero said. And the room. Went. Wild.”

Romero’s known for his previous work with iD Software on games like Doom and Quake. After splitting with the company, Romero worked on many other titles.
His last shooter, Daikatana, came out in 2000. Despite the hype for this new shooter, Daikatana was not received too well. Screwattack has it at #7 for the “Top 10 Biggest Busts” while Game Trailers has it at #2 for “Gaming Disappoinments of the Decade” (2000). It’s worth noting that the early ad campaign for this game featured a poster that only said “John Romero’s about to make you his bitch.”
Romero later apologized for the ad.
Let’s hope this new shooter isn’t as overhyped. However, with Romero’s huge contributions to the gaming world, a new shooter from him is something to look forward to.
