Doom Eternal released for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia back in March to much fanfare. Though not perfect and persnickety in places, it’s a giblet-filled FPS that does well iterating on the mechanics of its forbear, 2016’s Doom, while remaining true to the series’ core formula.
Now, after months of waiting, Nintendo Switch owners will be able to get in on the demon-slaying action when the game releases digitally for the platform on December 8. There will not be a physical release for the system (yet), though those who purchase the game before December 22 will receive a copy of Doom 64 and the Rip and Tear Pack.
That pack includes, per the game’s Steam page:
-
DOOT Revenant Skin, a premium player demon skin for use in BATTLEMODE
-
Cultist Base Master Level, a remixed version of the campaign level with new challenges, combat encounters, and surprises
-
Throwback Shotgun Weapon Skin, bring Doom’s classic shotgun to bear on Doom Eternal’s demon hordes
Both Doom 64 and the R&T Pack typically retail for $4.99.
Additionally, Doom Eternal on the Nintendo Switch will make use of the system’s gyroscopic controls for motion aiming. Of course, the game can be played more traditionally with the Joy-Cons or a Switch Pro Controller.
Being able to take Doom Eternal with you wherever you go is a tantalizing prospect. Alongside the console’s already stellar lineup, Doom Eternal is yet another selling-point for those (like me) who’ve yet to pick up the system.
Unfortunately, the game’s first campaign DLC, The Ancient Gods, will be releasing at a later, still unspecified date.
