The Last of Us has sold 3.4 million copies in 3 weeks making it the Playstation 3‘s fastest selling title for 2013. So let’s do some math! Take 3.4 times the average $59.99 for a new title for the Playstation 3 and attach a bunch of zeros to the end. What do you get? A whole lot of money, that’s what! Roughly $20,396,600 based on my estimated sales price above. Although it’s not really the official revenue of the game, it kind of puts it in to perspective a bit.
I may just have to try it for myself
I’m not a survival horror game player. I wasn’t interested in the game up to this point because it just doesn’t fit my style of games. After seeing the numbers though, even I decided, I’ll have to give this game a try. I’m not going to rush out and buy The Last of US right this minute, but I will get it eventually. I just hope it lives up to the hype.
An introduction to the story
When I looked it up for a brief introduction into the story, I read a bit to far into it. I spoiled parts of the story for myself, so I won’t go into too much detail just a basic starter. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world in the year 2033. A fungus has spread, infecting people and making them zombie-like. Your role in the story is to escort a girl named Ellie to a resistance group called the Fireflies. That’s where I’ll stop so that I don’t ruin anything.
Some high praise from the top
Sony Worldwide Studios head, Shuhei Yoshida, was practically singing praises for the success of The Last of Us.
“The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none”
That’s some pretty big praise, looks like Naughty Dog must be doing something right! I’ll just have to find out for myself if I’ll have praise for this game or not..
