The game director of Driveclub, Paul Rustchynsky, has confirmed that the game will include microtransactions to more quickly unlock cars that are normally obtained through the fame and levelling process.  He’s also assured as that this availability will not make the game drastically easier for those who choose to take up the microtransaction option, but simply offer “a couple of shortcuts.”

Rustchynsky goes on to say that “if you want to unlock a car immediately, you can pay to unlock that car straight away but it’s not a consumable microstransaction. We don’t let people buy Fame, for example and spend lots and lots.” Though Driveclub is a different type of racing game, both of the recent installments of the Forza and Gran Turismo series’ have included microtransaction options, offering a potentially decent addition of income for the game. The last bit of info that Rustchynsky provided was that the game will feature India, the United Kingdom, Canada, Chile, and Norway in which 11 tracks will be playable in each.

Driveclub anticipated for some time

At E3 in 2013 Sony claimed that there will be a stripped down edition of Driveclub free for PlayStation Plus subscribers. A quality amount of content will be available, but cars and tracks will be understandably limited in this version. The game was first announced at a PlayStation 4 press conference on February 20th, 2013 and the scheduled release date is October 8th, 2014 in North America and Europe to pair with an October 10th release in the UK.
