Epic Games has shed some light on the unclear future of their free-to-play MOBA Paragon on Reddit, admitting that the large-scale mainstream success of Fortnite and its “Battle Royale” mode had the developers wavering between priorities. Therefore, progress with the game has been slower than usual.
That said, while Paragon is beloved by a large and steady community, it has failed to keep players interested and has not reached a viable mainstream success as of yet; the stagnant recognition of the game has regrettably stunted its growth.
“No iteration has yet achieved that magical combination of ingredients that make for a sustainable game,” stated the dev frankly on Reddit.
While Epic wants to see the game grow and prosper, for the majority of new players who try Paragon, “only a small number continue to play regularly after a month.” This is disheartening for the team, and much of the Paragon staff has shifted to help maintain Fortnite instead.
Unfortunately, this may affect the speed of updates to the game. In the coming weeks, Epic Games will be brainstorming about Paragon’s growth, and they welcome feedback and suggestions from community gamers.
