Some Microsoft Xbox 360 users that had their console’s family settings turned on still had a scary image of Mia from The Evil Dead reaching out of a trap door on their dashboard. Many of those families affected went on Reddit with their complaints. Some have had young children run screaming from the room after seeing the Evil Dead ad. One 3-year-old child is now scared to even turn on the Xbox. Other children are having nightmares about demons and monsters from the ads that play.
Family Settings are used to help protect children’s safety and privacy and restrict inappropriate content from being seen by minors. Turning on Family Settings on the Xbox is completed by going to Settings, Privacy, Change Settings, Customize, Content, Filtering, Family.
Microsoft is reviewing how the Evil Dead ad made it past the programming to keep inappropriate games and ads from family screens when the family settings are turned on.
Another simple answer to this problem has been listed by Carlo Zottmann at http://carlo.zottmann.org/2012/09/22/xbox-live-on-opendns/ where he shows how to completely block the ads by using OpenDNS. I am sure that this is not a suggestion Microsoft would make, but it will remove all ads from your Xbox.
