Earlier today, Tony Key, Senior VP of sales and marketing for Ubisoft, announced that the company is only interested in games that are considered franchises such as the very popular Assassins Creed series. WatchDogs, a new IP from the company is said to be the first of a long run of sequels.
A few hours later, Key stated, “It’s a great brand, and now it’s got the recognition it deserves, so we’re clearly going to make another one: more on that soon.” The game he was referring to was an official sequel to the Far Cry series. The third installment was released to excellent reviews getting scores between 8 to 9 out of 10. The game was so successful it received add-on DLC added a whole new dynamic and storyline to the game. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon also gained praise scoring an 8 out of 10 from IGN.com
How does everyone feel about Ubisoft’s strategy? Do you think this will keep quality games releasing or will storylines and gameplay hit a wall when the same formula is used over and over again?
